Meet Our Staff


Robert Giattino

Robert Giattino is Vice President of Operations and Senior Engineer at RRM. In this role, he is responsible for general management, administration, health and safety, and engineering. He also provides internal consultation on a variety of projects and directly manages remediation projects. Mr. Giattino has 27 years of experience in environmental investigation, remediation, and project management. His work has focused on remedial alternatives evaluation, technologies testing, system design, corrective action planning, remediation operation and maintenance, and regulatory compliance management. He specializes in providing inventive solutions to environmental challenges through detailed data analyses and solution-oriented application of results. He has been with RRM for 18 years.

Mr. Giattino holds a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering and is a registered professional engineer with the State of California. He also holds a 40-hour HAZWOPER Safety Training certificate, annual 8-hour Refresher training certificates, and annual 8-hour Supervisor Training certificates. He has continuing education credits in bioremediation of hazardous waste, assessment and management of MtBE-impacted sites, and small water system operation and maintenance

Steve Clark

Steve Clark is a principal hydrogeologist at RRM. His leadership and expertise are instrumental in providing high quality environmental investigation and remediation services. Mr. Clark has 27 years of experience in environmental investigation, remediation, and project management; and has specialized training in groundwater flow modeling and contaminant transport. Mr. Clark uses his specialized training to interpret subsurface investigation data and analyze remediation performance. His analyses allow a clear understanding of the challenges posed by subsurface impact and facilitate effective decision making to meet those challenges. Mr. Clark reinforces his understanding of subsurface structure, transport mechanisms, and remediation performance with a large measure of fieldwork. Importantly, Mr. Clarks’ experience in environmental services is complemented with experience in serving with the U.S. Navy. He has been with RRM for 14 years.

Mr. Clark holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Geology and is a registered professional geologist and certified hydrogeologist with the State of California. He has completed additional training with courses in Groundwater Hydrology; Aquifer Testing, Design, and Analysis; Modeling Contaminate Fate and Transport; Multiphase Contaminant Flow and Transport Modeling; Risk and Decision Making at Petroleum Contaminated Sites; and Assessment and Management of MtBE-Impacted Sites. He also holds a 40-hour HAZWOPER Safety Training certificate and annual 8-hour Refresher training certificates.

Julie Avanto

Julie Avanto is a Project Engineer at RRM. In this role, she is responsible for general project management, engineering, and construction. She also provides internal consultation on a variety of environmental and water quality projects. Ms. Avanto has 15 years of experience in the environmental industry. Her work has focused on remediation systems design, technologies testing, corrective action planning, and remedial system operation and maintenance. He specializes in providing inventive solutions to environmental challenges through detailed data analyses and solution-oriented application of results. He has been with RRM for 10 years.

Ms. Avanto holds a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering and is a registered professional civil engineer with the State of California. She also holds a 40-hour HAZWOPER Safety Training certificate and annual 8-hour Refresher training certificates.

Matt Kaempf

Matt Kaempf is Vice President of Field Services at RRM. He is well seasoned in all facets of environmental construction and contracting management, cost estimating, overall project management, and environmental project liaison. Mr. Kaempf has 19 years of experience in environmental fieldwork relating to investigation and remediation, project budget control, and construction. He specializes in planning and managing remediation construction and earthwork; and has been with RRM for 18 years.

Mr. Kaempf holds a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Studies, a 40-hour HAZWOPER Safety Training certificate, and annual 8-hour Refresher training certificates. Mr. Kaempf is also a California-licensed general engineering contractor with hazardous materials certification.

Matt Paulus

Matt Paulus is a professional geologist at RRM. He provides professional project oversight for environmental investigation and remediation projects, and plays a key role in liaison with regulatory agencies. He also provides internal consultation on a variety of projects. Mr. Paulus has 17 years of experience in environmental investigation, remediation, and project management. He specializes in environmental investigation planning, work plan preparation and implementation, and reporting; and has a keen ability to incorporate the regulatory community in providing outcomes that benefit all parties. Mr. Paulus is also one of our primary field geologists. He has been with RRM for 13 years.

Mr. Paulus holds a Bachelor’s degree in Geology and is a registered professional geologist with the State of California. He also holds a 40-hour HAZWOPER Safety Training certificate and annual 8-hour Refresher training certificates.

Cate Townsend

Cate Townsend is a project geologist at RRM with 13 years of professional experience in environmental consulting, geology, and field geology. She has been with RRM for 11 years. Ms. Townsend’s work at RRM includes project management, all facets of environmental field investigation, preparation of Phase I Environmental Site Assessments, and preparation of environmental investigation reports. As a field geologist, Ms. Townsend oversees small and large-scale remedial excavations; well installation and destruction; soil, soil gas, and groundwater sampling; and onsite regulatory liaison.

Ms. Townsend holds a Bachelor’s degree in Earth Science, a 40-hour HAZWOPER Safety Training certificate, and annual 8-hour Refresher training certificates.
