In Mr. Giattino's seventeen years of experience in environmental remediation, his work has focused on remedial alternatives evaluation, technologies testing, system design, and corrective action planning. Mr. Giattino has an extensive background in the design, installation, and performance testing of various types of remedial systems, including soil vapor extraction (high and low-flow), air sparging (well, galleries, low-flow), enhanced biodegredation (in and ex-situ), groundwater extraction (well point, trench, gallery), dual extraction techniques (bio-slurping), and closed-loop air injection/extraction. Recent work includes:
- Responsible for compliance with a Clean-Up and Abatement order issued by the San Francisco Regional Water Quality Control Board. Throughout the clean-up process, deadlines were consistently met, and the proposed remedial techniques were well received by the Board and client. Expert regulatory negotiation played an integral role in developing a cost-effective compliance strategy.
- Developed site management plans for hydrocarbon-impacted sites throughout California and Alaska that allowed natural in-situ biodegredation to serve as a corrective action measure
- Directly participated in or supervised the investigation and remediation of sites impacted with petroleum hydrocarbons, solvents, metals, and agricultural-use compounds. Work included workplan preparation, field studies, remedial and corrective action plan preparation, financial planning and cost control, data evaluation, remedial systems design, remediation performance evaluation and reporting, and site closure.
- Co-authored major papers on remediation techniques, including: "Observations of the Effects of Soil Venting on Separate-Phase Hydrocarbons" (published in the proceedings of the 1991 Fifth National Outdoor Action Conference on aquifer Restoration, Ground Water Monitoring, and Geophysical Methods), and "Remediation of MTBE-Contaminated Groundwater using Conventional Air Sparging and Soil Vapor Extraction" (published in the proceedings of The Second International Conference on Remediation of Chlorinated and Recalcitrant Compounds, in 2000).
