In his seventeen years of experience in the fields of geology and hydrogeology, Mr. Hidalgo’s work has focused on soil and groundwater investigation, remediation technology evaluation and implementation, facilities closure and regulatory compliance. Representative project experience includes the following:
- Managed monitoring and reporting programs at numerous retail gasoline service stations in California for a major oil company. Project management duties included implementation of soil and groundwater investigations, scheduling quarterly monitoring and sampling, report preparation, regulatory compliance, and soil and groundwater remediation.
- Managed fieldwork program at large defense contractor site in San Jose, California with widespread trichloroethene impact. Work included the installation of approximately 200 groundwater monitoring and extraction wells, installation of soil vapor extraction systems, quarterly groundwater monitoring and reporting.
- Managed soil and groundwater investigations, quarterly monitoring programs, and remediation programs at three natural gas pumping stations in California with groundwater impacted by hexavalent chromium. Work included well installation, quarterly groundwater sampling, aquifer testing, groundwater modeling, remediation system operation and evaluation, and report preparation. Achieved compliance with cleanup and abatement orders and a corrective action consent agreement.
- Performed numerous geologic hazards investigations in the San Francisco Bay Area. Work included geologic site mapping, fault and landslide trenching and air photo interpretation.
- Performed a Preliminary Endangerment Assessment (PEA) at a ten-acre industrial site in the San Francisco Bay Area with widespread zinc impact in soil resulting from 40 years of ceramics manufacturing at the site. Approximately 3,000 yards of impacted soil was excavated and removed to reduce zinc concentrations remaining in soil to below cleanup levels specified in the approved PEA. Site received closure from the Department of Toxic Substance Control.
- Managed, designed and performed hundreds of LNAPL and DNAPL soil and groundwater site assessment programs for local governments and private industry.
- Managed a soil-flushing pilot study for perchlorate- affected soil and groundwater at a former perchlorate disposal/burn area. Evaluated data and prepared report.
- Participated in a multiple-consultant interim remediation and pilot study implementation program, including the joint preparation of a site-wide Feasibility Study and Corrective Action Plan documents for the cleanup of Volatile Organic Compounds, hexavalent chromium and perchlorate at a former ordnance facility.
